I'll Remember That

Works – I’ll Remember That

I’ll remember that is an art piece that was exhibited for the first time at ‘W O M X N’ 2020 in the Spectrum Project Space, Mount Lawley, Western Australia.

‘W O M X N’ 2020 was a group show involving female/female-identifying/non-binary students/alumni from Edith Cowan University. The artists were encouraged to create a piece of art, based on their own individual experiences as a womxn.

The aim of this creative work is to bring together the many voices; spoken, whispered, yelled, and sung by Mothers around the world. It is intended that this piece will be an ongoing project and will be exhibited in a variety of spaces.

This is your invitation to respond and it is entirely voluntary. Your words will be stitched and will remain completely anonymous. Your responses in their stitched form will be documented in a variety of formats including process photographs, detail photographs, smaller more intimate art pieces, along with photographs taken within the exhibition space. You are welcome to respond in whatever way feels most comfortable to you i.e. handwritten, spoken, survey response, emailed, answers on a postcard.

As the artist, it is my intention that this work will provide an opportunity for deep reflection upon the long-term impact of our words and the acknowledgment that what we say holds meaning far beyond the initial utterance.

The Questions

What are the words you remember your mother/mother figure telling you?

What do you wish your mother/mother figure had told you?
